- Abstract
- Transition Tote materials teach middle school, secondary, and transition students with visual impairments essential skills for learning about themselves and the world of work. This includes seeking, obtaining, and keeping jobs. In addition to seven new lessons and the custom designed backpack, this kit includes updated descriptions of technology, revised resource and reference materials, and an updated Facilitator's Guide. New lessons include:
- Feedback From Others: How to obtain and use others' impressions/evaluations of yourself
- Comprehensive Self-Analysis Report: Pulling together all you have learned about yourself into a single document
- Discrepancy Analysis: Comparing your strengths and weaknesses with demands of jobs/careers in which you are interested
- Vocational Action Plan: Developing steps toward resolving discrepancies and achieving your vocational goal
- Answering Employers' Concerns: Understanding employers concerns about employees with visual impairments and developing explanations to allay those concerns
- Making Friends of Coworkers: Exploring the “Dos” and “Don'ts” of social behavior in the work place
- Resolving Conflicts: Developing good communications skills and strategies to avoid conflict at work
